A Fabulous NYC Pied-A-Terre

This pied-a-terre made my heart flutter… designed by the incredibly talented interior designer Michael Smith and architect Oscar Shamamian, the duo was brought in to reimagine the space with neoclassical elements and silvery finishes to reflect the sky.  Located on the 33rd floor of Ritz Carlton, the U-shaped space boasts 92′ of spectacular park views.

The sellers of this 4,536 square feet, 2 bedroom, 4 bath space are LA based financier Howard Marks and his wife, Nancy.  The Marks paid $18.875 million for it in 2007.  At the time the apartment had been completely gutted by a prior owner.
I love, love, love the art in this room… and the mirrored wall behind it.

The large Living Room with exposures to both north and south boasts walls of stucco veneziano and a parquet de Versailles-patterned floor of German silver, an alloy of copper and nickel hand-hammered over wood make me swoon!

How I wish I had views like this in my kitchen…
I love that this property has a modern kitchen… it’s the perfect mix with the otherwise traditional design.
The Dining Room with 18th century-style boisseries by Feau & Cie opens to a corner Breakfast Room.

The corner Master Bedroom suite includes a paneled Library.

The 33-story Ritz-Carlton building was built in 1930 as the Hotel St. Moritz. It was foreclosed on during the Depression, a year after it opened. In the 1980s and 1990s, it became frayed and went through a series of owners. Donald Trump bought it in 1985 and filed plans to turn it into apartments, but flipped it insteadThe space at the top of the building originally was part of the hotel but were opened as condo apartments within months of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
A library inspired by Coco Chanel’s famous Paris apartment that is fitted with 18th century Chinese lacquer panels.
I love the gold metallic tiles in the bath on the right!
“…The property also includes access to a private lobby, superb security, on-site fitness center/spa and the availability of a full array of impeccable hotel services. A rare marriage of the ultimate in elegance and sophistication with the most spectacular views in all New York” ~ Sotheby’s International

The apartment is the sixth property that Mr. Smith designed for the Marks in New York, Los Angeles and abroad.
If only I had $50 million lying around… sigh.
xoxo, B
