A Farewell To Summer, Plus Couture Cocktails ~

The days of summer are behind us.  I’m never quite ready to let them slip away…

I do, however, love autumn… the softness of cashmere, breezy days, and the scent of the cooling air.  Whilst there is something to look forward to in each season, nothing else compares to welcoming this time of year.  I especially love it’s robust colour displays of scarlett, burnt orange and golden yellow.

Let’s raise a coupe to say farewell to summer… au revoir!

Couture Cocktails

Roasted Blueberry Basil Margaritas

2 ounces Grand Marnier
1 1/2 ounces Tequila
2 ounces lime juice
2 1/2 ounces blueberry basil simple syrup {recipe below}
sliced lime + fresh blueberries and basil leaves for garnish
salt + sugar for the rim

Rim the ridge of your glass with a lime wedge and dip in a mix of margarita salt + sugar {I used approx 3 tablespoons salt to 2 teaspoons sugar}. Fill the glass with ice. In a cocktail shaker, combine tequila, grand marnier, simple syrup and lime juice with ice, and shake for 30 seconds. Pour over ice and squeeze in lime slices, then drop in blueberries and more fresh basil leaves.

Roasted blueberry basil simple syrup:
Preheat oven 400 degrees F. Place 1 cup of blueberries on a nonstick baking sheet with a pinch of salt. Place in the oven and roast for 15-20 minutes, or until berries start to burst.
While blueberries are roasting, combine equal parts sugar and water {such as 1/2 cup of each} in a small saucepan and add 6-8 fresh basil leaves, bring to a boil and let sugar dissolve, then turn off heat and let cool completely, approx 20 minutes. Combine 1/2 cup simple syrup + roasted blueberries in a blender/food processor and blend until combined.

I loved this recipe; however, found there was a tad too much tequila for my taste so I adjusted the amount.  Recipe for one margarita, can easily be multiplied

I love that photo of the fall flowers. Those are my favorite colors also and fall is my favorite season. I agree with you that nothing matches the anticipation of autumn. And that cocktail! It's a beauty and it sounds delicious. I will have to try it soon.

This summer has been too hot and cruel. I am glad it is finally starting to slip away.

Though I enjoy each season and all it has to offer .. Autumn, long ago captured a special place in my heart. The sweaters, warm days- cool/crisp evenings, the colours Mother Nature creates …. awwww… Yes Autumn.

Wishing you a wonderful Labour Day! Hugs, C. (HHL)
