Bonjour mon ami’s! I hope you are doing well. I wrapped up my semester late last week and now I’m planning 3 1/2 months of summer bliss. This was an especially busy semester, more so than last fall, and I didn’t think that was possible. I intended to take 1-2 online classes this summer but I felt I needed a break instead. I am so thankful that I did!
Anyone who knows me, can tell you than I’m a fan of Art Deco and the beautiful style in South Beach is a favourite. Therefore it’s needless to say that the new SLS Hotel in South Beach has me swooning! Collaborating with renowned designer Philippe Starck and design team Lenny Kravitz {two of my favourites} as well as Chefs José Andrés and Katsuya Uechi, this hotel is nothing less than exquisite.
Starck known for his whimsical, over-the-top designs, sought to create a “dream world” theme that blends Latin, Asian, contemporary and Art Deco influences.
The glamorously eclectic guest rooms, feature generous doses of white and pink, as well as an over- sized white sofa, white wooden tile flooring, walls of trompe l’oil French paneling, and sexy ceiling mirrors placed over the boudoir.
The femme baths feature a glass-enclosed rain shower with white walls and flooring. Starck designed the vanity, which includes glass and mirrors with macaron pink accents.
The hotel has two pools ~ one for adults and one for families. The adult pool will be at the heart of the Hyde Beach lounge area and will consist of indoor and outdoor components along with 10 posh poolside bungalows. Kravitz designed one bungalow and the Penthouse Suite. I’m searching everywhere for photos but have yet to find a single one.
Andrés Bazaar Restaurant is a culinary playground designed by Philippe Starck featuring the cutting edge tapas menu that virtually re-imagines Spanish cuisine.
SLS Hotel South Beach debuts at the site of the historic hotel formerly known as the Ritz Plaza. Originally built in 1939 under South Beach architect L. Murray Dixon, the hotel features a rooftop architectural design depicting a lantern reaching to the sky. It is the tallest art deco structure in South Beach.
This hotel definitely has me contemplating a summer visit to Miami…

My darling friend! Oh how you have been so busy! With what degree will you be graduating? It seems as if you have been in school for the duration of my entire blogging time: FOUR YEARS. I SO WISH YOU THE BEST as I hope you will wind down! I AM WELL, thank you so much. I resigned from my teaching job in April and will work until the last day of school.I am going to continue as a substitute teacher in September and only work about four days a week so I can concentrate on my art and writing!
