Beautiful Inspiration ~ Décor

I received a phone call the other day from a friend, she had a question regarding how to incorporate a statement piece into her existing décor.  I explained to her that it is the same as if she were adorning herself with a piece of beautiful jewelry that would make her ensemble unique.  It may be a piece of art, furniture, lighting, wallpaper, architectural details or an entire wall.
This wall is sure to be the focal point in this room
A statement piece should not compete with the rest of the décor, it should take center stage.
The carrera marble bathtub and surround is exquisite!  The sconces add the perfect touch.
When choosing the perfect statement piece, consider your style and interests. If you are passionate about European history, you might incorporate French antiques or reproduction pieces, such as an intricately hand-carved Louis chair.  It’s an opportunity to express your personality.
The stainless steel and black granite fireplace is the statement piece in this contemporary space
When designing your home, fill it with things you love.  Investing in one piece of furniture which is of superior quality is better than buying an entire dining room set of a poor quality which will need to be replaced.  It seems that so many pieces on the market today do not last.  I could go on about this subject…
..or a view.  This is the perfect focal point, non?
Introducing an element of antiquity will add individuality to your space without compromising it’s contemporary design.  “Crossing too many t’s and dotting too many i’s make a room look overdone and tiresome. One should create something that fires the imagination without overemphasis.” ~ Nancy Lancaster
What are some of your favourite statement pieces in your home?

BONJOUR MA BELLE! Oh dear, every statement piece on this post speaks volumes to me! THAT DRESSER IN PINK….everything…and you are so right. I had to give up my dream of having a fireplace in the new room because the main focal point against the only wall where there is enough space is this beautiful contraption that Ruben built to HIDE the flat screen TV….to try to add a fireplace to the rest of the wall space would be insane! The other walls are too closed in due to the furniture, but the room turned out so beautifully. An overhead crystal chandelier and exposed beams (those come in this summer) will complete the look. Oh what an eye you have for beauty! ENJOY THE REST OF THIS WEEK MA CHÈRIE!! And I love that LAST PHOTO..quelle vue!!! Anita

I love that first photo of the pink dresser but I think it would give my husband a fit if I introduced it anywhere in our house 🙂

My father used to love going to the auction house rue Drouot in Paris and would bring back old furniture, clocks and paintings. I did not like the French style – too fussy for me. I just wished to see pure Scandinavian designs then. When I came to the Deep South and went to auctions here I started to like antiques again. I bought a rosewood “fainting couch” at an old plantation estate auction and then found several other pieces to redesign our parlor in the antebellum style. I like this because to me it is something foreign. I found several more pieces at old plantation auctions, like Gone with the Wind lamps, etc. and several painting. At a country auction in North Georgia I bought an old pie safe and it looks good in the kitchen. But my mother sent me some of my father’s prized French clocks and a very old grandfather clock from Normandie I believe. So the style is very eclectique.
