Stainless steel has been at the forefront in kitchen appliance preference for years. Many appliance manufactures have sought to find a successor but none have topped its popularity until now. For quite awhile, there have been whispers in the design community that black and slate appliances will be at the rise of kitchen design in 2015. Black makes a strong, sleek statement and is coming back in a more stylish manner.
When I first read the articles claiming stainless is on its way out, I was baffled by the thought of it being considered dated. Personally, I like the industrial look of stainless, however, one thing I know as a designer is appliance color trends only last for a decade. Stainless started to gain momentum in the early 2000’s and has been at the leading edge since. Although not all of my clients are ready to give up their stainless appliances just yet, there are some that are expressing the need for a change.
A La Cornue range will always be at the top of my wish list in almost every color but I especially love black.
I’m swooning over this range with a matte finish and gold handless from Smeg. One of my favorite things about a matte finish is no fingerprints!
What are your thoughts, is black a stylish alternative to stainless?
