Design Inspiration ~ Black & White

Few colour combinations make an impact like black and white.  The classic palette has been on the fashion scene for years by the likes of Coco Chanel and can create an equally chic impression in the home.

{before  after: a glammed out kitchen}
This kitchen design by Naomi of Design Manifest was featured in Lonny Magazine.  I’m smitten with the brass strapped hood and the 48″  black and brass Blue Star Hood seen here.  The two-tone cabinets make the biggest impact in this kitchen and was a risk that paid off.

This master bedroom in a NYC apartment designed by Brian McCarthy is a astonishingly beautiful {except for the zebra head}.  The drapery is by Quadrille and the ebonized-wood bed by Ralph Lauren Home.

I love the living area of this Paris duplex designed by Frédéric Méchiche.  He executed his signature black and white motif on the canvas upholstery while adorning it with oversize pillows, making this room inviting and relaxed while still remaining très chic.

Fashion designer Zang Toi coated his mahogany bed frame by belle epoque cabinetmaker François Linke in glossy black paint and silver-plated its gold ormolu trim; the 19th-century chandelier is ornamented with silver-plate musical instruments.  Although beautiful, the process of ormolu creates toxic fumes and has has been banned since the 19th century because artisans rarely lived passed the age of 40 years.

The checkered marble flooring of stylist Joanna Lavén and David Wahlgren’s Stockholm apartment makes a statement.  The chandelier is a 1958 Gino Sarfatti design from Flos, the sideboard is by Arne Vodder, and the floor lamp is Italian; the chair is from Scandia Chair, and the plant stand is by Fornasetti.

Fashion designer Monique Lhuillier’s powder room is covered in wallpaper by Astek, the mirror by Williams-Sonoma Home, the pedestal sink by Kohler, and fittings by Dornbracht.

There isn’t much to say about this hallway except that it’s an example of the inexpensive impact paint can have.

I love the contrast and geometric pattern of the floors at Hôtel Marignan in Paris.  The three-dimensional aspect can give the impression you are walking on various levels and surfaces.

    Very striking! Not sure if it's me as it is a bit too strong, but there are some really beautiful details to admire. x
