Bonjour and Happy Bastille Day! I hope you had a lovely weekend.
Today in France, the flags are waiving and the sounds of La Marseillaise fill the air. Formally called La Fête Nationale, celebrations are held all over France commemorating the beginning of the French Revolution and storming of the Bastille which took place on 14 July, 1789. For me, I will be visiting my favourite French bakery for macarons and merengues. If I’m feeling particularly festive, a swipe of red lipstick or gloss.
7 of my favourite French things
Champagne
Champagne
Straight or in cocktails, champagne is by far my drink of choice and, as we all know, it is exclusive only to the champagne region of France. I can drink it for brunch, lunch, and dinner… I will be sharing a new favourite champagne brunch cocktail with week.
Foods
I can’t possibly narrow this down. The cafe’s, bistro’s, brasseries, Ladurée, Angelina’s, fromageries, pâtisseries, and exquisite dining… so many wonderful dining choices. Even the street food is delicious! This may have something to do with my love affair with France and the fact that when there I’m in a romantic state of mind?
Beauty and Fashion
Whether it be lingerie, shoes, parfums, beauty products, or that Hermès handbag, French beauty and fashion is epitome of chic. Today, I will be donning my Chanel jumbo handbag and Repetto ballerinas.
Architecture & Interiors
As a interior designer with a passion for all things French, the architecture and interiors certainly inspire me. Classmates in design school told me there was no doubt it was my niche.
Museums
France boasts a dizzying amount of museums devoted to an array of topics. My favourite is the Musée d’Orsay followed by The Louvre. I can, and do, spend hours upon hours mesmerized by the beauty that fill these walls.
Antiques
I love shopping the flea markets and discovering hidden treasures for clients and myself. The elegance and detailed craftsmanship of each piece, with their own story to tell, remains unparalleled today.
French Bulldogs
One of our Frenchie’s, Bogie. Isn’t he handsome? He’s the happiest guy in the world and he loves his momma. Look at that smile! How can you not feel happy when you look at that face?
Will you be celebrating? What are some of your favourite French things?
xx, B
