I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend and week so far! We made a quick visit to Chicago. It’s one of my favourite cities and it’s close enough for a mini vacation… short and sweet. The weather was nice but hot. We visited our favourite spots ~ Navy Pier and all of it’s activities, including the ferris wheel, lunch at Riva on the Pier and Rosebud, dinner on the patio at Fulton’s on the River, the Lincoln Park zoo, museums and shopping. We were able to see Johnny Depp’s new movie “Dark Shadows” on the Imax. We loved it.
One of my favourite places is Vosges Haut Chocolat in Lincoln Park. We stop here each visit and stock up on everyone’s favourites. This will be another post.. there is too much chocolate goodness to write about.
T and I made a weekend trip last month also. Merchandise Mart was the highlight of this trip. Have you been? It’s amazing! I think I sat on every chair in Knoll. Since we were there sans kids we went to a swanky cocktail lounge I have wanted to go to for quite some time ~ The Violet Hour in Wicker Park {I mostly wanted to see the decor}. Isn’t it lovely? I love the lush velvet drapes and flooring. There are rules here… no photos is one of them. I found the photos below on Google images.

It’s like a speak-easy… there is nothing else to signify it’s existence other than a yellow light bulb and graffiti walls at the entrance.
Upon entering through the thick velvet drapes, we were seated in the tall back chairs next to the bar but once friends joined us, we were moved in the back next to the fireplace, the very hot fireplace. They need to work on that. However, the service and cocktails were good and the ambiance was lovely.
We went fairly early as they don’t accept reservations and once it fills to capacity you need to wait in the long line that forms.
