Rouge Coco de Chanel ~

With the excitement of Chanel’s Coco Rouge Hydrating Crème Lip Colour scheduled to make it’s debut in March, I thought I would dedicate a post to the new line.  Chanel lipsticks and glosses are stellar in my opinion and I expect nothing less from the new reformulated collection from Peter Phillips.

Phillips, Chanel’s global director of make-up, is hoping to bring back the ladylike lip, lamenting “Women seem to have forgotten how to apply lipstick”.  It’s true, Peter, Glossimers do come in handy whilst at the swimming pool, early mornings when I’m rushing to take the children to school or activities, not to mention that they’re easy to apply and I don’t always need the mirror of the sun visor.  However, it’s lipstick that I much prefer.  There is something femine about it’s application.

The company reports that it sells two glosses for every tube of lipstick.  I found that hard to believe at first, that was until I stopped to consider that I most often see my girlfriends swiping glosses across their pouts rather than lipsticks!  Nevertheless, I have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of Coco Rouge since my Chanel girl first told me the line was being launched.  I immediately searched through exisitng colours of the hydrabase lipstick that have been discontinued, deciding which colours I would not want to be without.

Chanel has chosen the enchanting Vanessa Paradis, Johnny Depp’s beautiful wife, to be the face of the new line.  How lucky can one girl be?  Paridis has a long history with Chanel, appearing as a caged songbird in Coco fragrance ads in 1992.  In 2003, Paradis was photographed by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel’s Cambon handbag, and modeled again for Chanel’s Mademoiselle handbags in 2005.

Although the Rouge Coco line will feature some of it’s best-selling colours like Rouge Noir, the range has been revamped adding more “wearable” colours, to entice the “gloss generation” into wearing lipstick again.

The lipstick is forecasted to have strong pigments combined with a nourishing formula that contains phyto-ceramides and other moisturizing components.  There are said to be over 30 colours to choose from.  The majority, are wearable taupes and dusty roses that keep with Philips’s mantra of ease.  Each colour is dedicated to Mlle Coco and her tastes ~ Camellia, Paris, Mademoiselle, Rivoli to name only a few.

The metal packaging will feature the classic black and gold detailing, interlocked CC’s and the name Chanel embossed onto each lipstick bullet.  Chanel has a flair for dusting off antiquated styles and making them impossibly chic again.

Each lipstick has the hallmarks of luxury you’d expect from Chanel, plus the latest technology has been employed to increase hydration and pigment for easy application and a silky melt-away texture.  The estimated price is $30.

                                                                  Au Revoir!  xoxo, B

They sound divine. If you're going to buy just one lipstick, better make it Chanel! I love the rose scent that some of them have.
