Beautiful Décor ~ Bergère and Fauteuil Chairs

One of my favourite pieces of furniture, the bergère chair originated in France and was a top choice of Marie Antoinnette.  These French armchairs have enclosed arms with an upholstered back and armrests.  A French tradition, the bergère is fitted with a loose, but tailored, seat cushion. It is designed for lounging in comfort, with a deeper, wider seat than that of a regular fauteuil.
Doesn’t this fauteuil look comfortable?  Perfect for any new parent.
The terms fauteuil and bergère are often used interchangeably to label these chairs; however, the two are not the same.  Fauteuil, meaning armchair, specifically means an upholstered armchair with open sides.  It was developed in the France during the late 1600’s.  The style evolved and became lighter and more ornate.
The two-tone upholstery of this Fauteuil adds interest.
I love the white bombe chest, trompe l’oeil, and white bergère
The colour of this chair by Old Hickory (one of my favourite lines) is by far my favourite, giving it a touch of elegance.
Coco Chanel’s sitting room.
This gilded bergère adds the perfect touch to this marble bath!
The pink bergère, crystal chandelier, and armoire in this dressing room are exquisite.  Wouldn’t you agree?
  Which chair is your favourite?
xoxo, B
