Memoriam | Oscar de la Renta

Yesterday the fashion world said goodbye to legendary fashion designer Oscar de la Renta, he was 82. He spent half a decade dressing every first lady since Jacqueline Kennedy and countless celebrities, and most recently Amal Alamuddin-Clooney, to adorning the runways with his fashion creations.  De la Renta also branched into fragrance, a home line, and furniture.

He was admired by contemporaries and adored by fashionistas.  De la Renta was the winner of numerous Cody awards, the fashion equivalent of the Oscars.  He was said to be a true gentleman in every sense of the word.
“The qualities I admire most in a woman is confidence and kindness” – Oscar de la Renta

Winter Beauty Essentials

With the colder weather moving in, I’m already noticing a change in my skin and hair so this week I visited one of my favourite beauty departments to pick up some beauty essentials that will take me through the winter.

No matter which season, this Clarisonic is a must for me.  I’ve written about it before but want to mention it again… I’m always singing it’s praises.  My skin has never looked better since using this product.  It removes every trace of make-up and the flaky skin caused by Retin-A, allowing products to penetrate deeper into the skin…. and the body attachment is phenomenal, however, not compatible with all models.

How cute it this one available here?  The full set, including body attachment here, Pedi set here.

One of the most important parts of the body to keep hydrated is the eye area.  The last thing we girls want is for this area to become dry and wrinkled.  I’ve been using YSL’s eye serum for awhile and really like it but I also like to switch up my products from time to time.  Another cream that I like to use, especially during the winter, is this one by Eve Lom.

Available here, also love this one, this one and this one.

I mentioned how dry my hair has been lately and the beauty advisor directed me to the Oribe products, which I’m already a fan, however, I’ve never used the masks before.  To no surprise, I fell in love, love, love with this product.  I left it in my hair all night and couldn’t believe how soft and moisturized it felt in the morning.

Available here, for color treated hair here… another good one here, and gift set here.

After falling in love with the Dilo oil, the said beauty advisor turned me on to this moisturizer also.  She gave me a sample to try and it is wonderful!  I’m reluctant to put too many products on my skin except for ones that are hydrating and moisturizing and this one fits the bill!

Available here, and the rep talked to me about this oxygen moisturizer which felt just as wonderful and claims to be a smaller version of their oxygen machine.

I think lips are one of the most susceptible body parts to becoming dry during cold weather.  Despite drinking 60 oz of water per day, my lips tend to become chapped on occasion.  I keep this in my handbag and apply it alone or prior to gloss and lip stick.

Available here, also love these brands also herehere, and here.

I stumbled upon this product and instantly became smitten with it.  I add it my body lotion, use it in or after a bubble bath, and apply it to my feet before applying creme and socks before bedtime.  It’s magical, and best of all, it’s not expensive.

Available here, creamy body wash here, and variety gift set here.

This cult favourite is in my handbag year round.. it’s perfect for dry cuticles.

Dior - Crème Abricot Fortifying Cream For Nails

Available here, other favourites here, and here.

What are some of your favourite winter beauty products?

Style Inspiration: Hermès

Paris is synonymous with iconic luxury labels such as Chanel, Dior, and Hermès.  I typically try to bring something back from one of them when I visit {that’s if I can wait} and Hermès has always been at the top of the list and one of my first stops.  In between visits, you can find me perusing the website and fawning over the Kelly and Birkin bags, as well as everything else.  Lately, I’ve had my eye on a new belt and, luckily, the website was restocked this week and I was able to grab it quickly before it sells out again.  Although I would rather see the item in person, this isn’t possible since there isn’t a store here in St. Louis.

Hermes... the perfect red!

The quality and craftsmanship of Hermès is unparalleled.  It takes approximately 48 hours for one of Hermès’s artisans to create a Birkin bag and, per Hermès’s policy, only one artisan can produce one model bag from beginning to finish.  Each artisan has their own unique set of tools which are never shared and taken with the artisan when they retire.  Many bags are said to be rejected as they don’t meet the standards and become either shelf displays or sold to the staff in sales.

The Brand is planning to open two new factories in Héricourt and in Montbéliard in 2015 or 2016 to cope with rising demand.  Perhaps this will help with the stocking issue?  Both new sites are within 20kms of the brand’s existing factory in Seloncourt and will specialise in the craftsmanship of leather goods.

I’ve put together a wishlist of some of my favourite items.  Afterall, Christmas is around the corner…

Wanderlust: Château de Pierrefonds

I’m truly astonished at the beauty of the châteaus of France.  I hope to one day be able to visit many of them. The Château de Pierrefonds is one of France’s most beautiful medeival castles.  The majestic multi-level turrets and white stone facade, most notably being the inspiration for Cinderella’s castle, can be seen for miles.  Originally built as a fortress, the picturesque castle is situated northeast of Paris, along the edge of the Compiègne Forest.

The Château includes most of the characteristics of defensive military architecture from the Middle Ages.  It underwent a complete restoration in the 17th century, leaving it with a fairy-tale silhouette, however, much of the interior is designed in the Renaissance style.  From the castle, you can appreciate the striking views of the quaint village of Pierrefonds and its lake, which is nestled in the towne centre.

The village of Pierrefonds offers many other sights to explore such as Château de Jonval and the Church of Saint-Sulpice.  You can visit the Château 2nd May to 4 September, 9:30am-6pm; 5 September to April, every day except Monday, 10am-1pm and 2pm-5:30pm.

Autumn Style Inspiration ~ Chic Capes

Happy Monday!  I hope you had a wonderful weekend.  The weather has turned from warm temperatures to brisk days and chilly evenings.. I love this time of year.  I think I may have mentioned that last week?  I’ve been slowly bringing out cashmere, jackets, and boots from my closet the past couple of weeks and over the weekend, I wore one of my favourite pieces – a cape.  A couple of years ago, I purchased a black cape I fell in love with from Cavalli.  It’s warm, versatile, and always looks chic whether I wear it with skinny jeans, coated jeans or leather, or a dress.  I turned to Pinterest for style inspiration and found so many chic looks that I may pick up another in a nude or pastel shade.

Delightful Indulgence: Top 7 Pumpkin Recipes

October is one of my favourite months because I bring out the cashmere sweaters, boots, and other cool weather clothing, plus it kicks off my pumpkin obsession month ~ consuming anything and everything pumpkin.  I anxiously await the return of all of my favourites while finding some new recipes to create on my own.

Narrowing down this list of my top 7 pumpkin recipes was difficult.  I didn’t want to add too many so it was overwhelming but wanted to give you a variety since pumpkins are so versatile.  Some of the ingredients in the recipes are adaptable so you can mix them up, such as the nuts you choose for a chex mix, crumb topping, and pumpkin seed clustes… and all are wildly delicious!
