Style Inspiration: Efforless Chic

“All a woman needs to be chic is a raincoat, two suits, a pair of trousers and a cashmere sweater.” Hubert de Givenchy

Mr. Givenchy was one of the best designers of all time and although I agree with him, I feel a girl should have a few more key items.

Some of the classics I keep in my closet.

Tip # 1.  Choose quality of over quantity.  Parisian women have notoriously small closets but manage to look chic each day.  Their secret is to invest in items each season that mix well with their current wardrobe and are of high quality.  Always buy the best you can afford.

Tip # 2.   Buy classic pieces that will take you through multiple seasons ~ a Chanel bag, a little black dress, a Burberry coat, cashmere, etc.  This will save money in the long run.

Tip # 3.  Embrace the body you have and know which colours and silhouettes flatter your body type and make you feel best.  This includes hair and make-up.  Enhance the features you want to accentuate and not focus on hiding what makes you feel self-conscious.  Prior to shopping, search your closet and make note of what you are shopping for and do not let someone talk you into purchasing something that you know isn’t right for you or because it’s on sale.

When my daughter was 5 years old, she and I were shopping in Nordstrom and she said to me, “We should only buy things that are ooh la la”.   Isn’t this brilliant?  Of course we should!

What are some of your classic pieces?
xoxo, B

Your sweet angel was a a fashionista in training – love her way of thinking. These are fabulous tips to remember … keeping it simple and classic = always looking great! I'm working on simplifying my own wardrobe to so that I'm wearing most of of what's in my wardrobe instead of just a small percentage. Quality = less which actually = more elegance, greater fitting … xo C. (HHL)
